Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics.

Taufon-Darnytsia contains taurine, a sulfur-containing amino acid that is formed in the body in the process of converting cysteine. Taurine participates in the synthesis of plastic material, as a result of which it stimulates reparative and regenerative processes in eye diseases of a dystrophic nature and/or pathological processes accompanied by a sharp violation of the metabolism of eye tissues, including eye injuries. Contributes to the normalization of the functions of cell membranes, optimization of energy and metabolic processes, maintenance of stability of the electrolyte composition of the cytoplasm of cells, inhibition of synaptic transmission.

Pharmacokinetics.

When instilled, the drug penetrates the tissues of the eye, where it exerts its specific effect. When used in therapeutic doses, the drug is practically not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream.

Indication

  • Dystrophic lesions of the cornea and retina, including hereditary tapetoretinal degenerations;

  • cataracts (age-related, diabetic, traumatic, radiation);

  • as a means of stimulating reparative processes in corneal injuries;

  • open-angle glaucoma (as an additional remedy).

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to taurine or other components of the medicinal product.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction

When combined with timolol eye drops, the decrease in intraocular and arterial pressure increases.

When simultaneously prescribing several drugs for local use in the eye, it is necessary to inject them with an interval of 10–15 minutes. Eye ointments should be applied last.

Features of use

For open-angle glaucoma, the drug should be used in combination with timolol 20-30 minutes before timolol instillation.

Excipients: the medicine contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), which can cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The effectiveness and safety of the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding have not been studied.

The ability to influence the speed of reaction when driving vehicles or other mechanisms.

The effect of the medicinal product on the human body while driving a motor vehicle or when working with other mechanisms has not been studied.

As with other topical ophthalmic medications, temporary blurring of vision or other visual disturbances may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. If blurred vision occurs after instillation, the patient must wait until the vision clears before driving or working with other mechanisms.

Method of application and dosage

Taufon should be prescribed to adults.

Immediately before use, you should hold the dropper tube with the medicine in the palm of your hand to warm it to body temperature. To open the dropper tube, turn the cover until it is completely separated from the body. Instill the solution into the eye by lightly pressing the body of the dropper tube.

For the treatment of cataracts appoint 2-3 drops 2-4 times a day every day. The treatment period is 3 months. Repeat the course with an interval of 1 month.

For injuries apply 2–3 drops 2–4 times a day for 1 month.

For the treatment of tapetoretinal degeneration and other dystrophic retinal diseases, penetrating corneal injuries the drug should be injected under the conjunctiva in the amount of 0.3 ml of a 4% solution once a day for 10 days. Repeat the course of treatment after 6–8 months.

With open-angle glaucoma instill 2–3 drops of the medicine into the conjunctival sac 2 times a day 20–30 minutes before using timolol. The course of treatment is determined by the doctor individually.

Children.

The effectiveness and safety of the drug's use in children have not been studied.

Overdose

Cases of overdose have not been described.

Side effects

Some patients may develop allergic reactions, hyperemia of the conjunctiva, itching, burning, and burning in the eyes.

Expiration date

2 years.

After opening the bottle, the drug should be stored for no more than 28 days.

Storage conditions
